1. I have used many tools through out this course each for different things. I used clay tools and the roller for clay, scissors and tape for my paper project, etc. tools such as the clay tools help sculpt my clay better as well as add extra and better quality detail.
2. In the beginning of this class I had no knowledge of the kiln or glazes. since the beginning starting with my mug and ending with my tray sets, my knowledge of the different color usage and layering has increased. 3.Though i was not successful in the mosaic project i feel i learned the most here. i learned a lot when cutting out the wood. this is when i would use the wood cutter and became very skilled at it. at first it wasn't that good and very difficult eventually i got to the point where i was teaching other students how to use it. 4. One technique I used was in my graffito project when I made a wood work design on my clay boat. I thought it was very successful because it really gave of a wood like vibe when it was really made of clay. 5.I didn't like the mosaic project though I feel that I worked and learned the most from this one. I say this because I learned how to not only use the wood saw but i learned how much clay actually shrinks when fired and how to make use of a difficult situation. for example I made use of the glass being covered by the grout by slowly whipping and chipping away at it. Thought it didn't make it completely better i made it less than worst and thats all that matters.

1. I already thought of the idea to do a crown or in this case a tiara. I THOUGHT it would look beautiful with the glass and grout in between.
2. I found it difficult in making everything fit in especially when they were fired and shrunk so I had to reimagine the places where everything was supposed to be. 3.i found the color after it got fired the only thing that I thought was successful. if I could change something it would be everything. though if I could only choose ONE then I would say ADDING THE GROUT. 1. I had made four mini plates, and on each plate I made an icon representing a well known cartoon.
2. At first I had the idea of doing an Alice in wonderland themed teacup set though I wasnt good at doing the teacup. then I had changed my idea to mini plates. I'm not sure where I got the idea of doing cartoon characters from though. 3. so first I got my rolled out clay then cut it into four of the same sized squares. next I made the sides of the plates by making coils and scoring them on. after they are set onto the plates I eventually carved the designs into the plates surface. lastly I fired them added glaze then fired them again. 1. When i made my piece i started with a pinch pot. then i went to coils. when i made the coils i made sure the were as big as my thumb. next i would score my coils onto the rim of my pinch pot.then to set it on i would make sure that I go up on the inside and down on the out. eventually I would keep doing this until I get the shape I want.
2. I was very successful in getting the round shape I wanted it only took me two tries to get to this place as well. though it i could change anything it would be the handle i wish i had stuck to keeping the handle in the place i had originally planned it to be. 3. i had burned wood, grass, and salt onto my piece though it didn't get hot enough so the colors didn't show like it should've. I would've put it back into the pit but i thought that it wouldn't be able to stand the heat so i left it as is. 1. i started by getting an over all idea of what i would be making. then when that was done i got tape plastic bags, tin foil, and news paper and got the overall shape. i also used a bit of hot glue to hold most of it together. after i was happy with my shape day by day i would add on the paper mache. while it was drying i would work on the eyes which were painted beads. finally when its all dried i sanded it out to become smooth and paint it.
2. it was successful in making the shape the way i wanted it took time but i was happy with the outcome. 3. i had the most trouble with the layers. there was even a point i had to add lots of tape and plastic bags because the stomach was looking very flat. but it all worked out in the end. 1. in the beginning i started off with wanting to do boxes in a series style. then i saw a banana mold and got the idea to do a boat. after the whole sculpting process i got to the designing. at first i was going to tell a story with the pattern, but when i accidently scratched my piece i got the idea to do a woodwork design.
2. i think the process was fairly long but well needed. i feel that in the end every step was defiantly needed. 3. i feel that the overall wood work design was a huge success though i wish i didn't break my other oar as well as made the woodwork the design for the whole piece. 1. i took part in painting the monkey while Christine helped with the newspaper part
2. we made the shape then newspaper, then green goo, then lastly after letting it dry we painted it. 1. i had originally got this idea by looking around the room. I give all my credit to the banana mold i used that also gave me the inspiration.
2. in the beginning i had a bit of trouble with the clay and having air bubbles. though after my 5th try i got a thick enough template to mold my boat. after i got the clay onto the template i smoothed it out to get the exact shape i wanted. after, it got to a softer leather hard and i began to put the under glaze on it and made my design. after the two firings along with the two other glazes that followed i was left with my end product. (i was not able to get a picture of my sgraffito piece in progress) |
