I find a personal interest in this project because of how she makes the paper look like it's... not paper. the way she bends the paper to make her art sends more of an illusion feeling that inspired me to do a wood work design into my piece.

process: first I wedged the clay then rolled it through the slab roller where it became to its preferred thickness. then i carved the shape of the rectangle(for the cup).after wetting the clay i would then carve my design into the slab. when completed i molded it into a cylinder and pinched the bottom to make the three legs. after i smoothed out the sides and perfected my design and scored on my handle. when i felt satisfied with what i had i then placed the mug into the kiln where i was fired. lastly after it being fired it was lazed and painted making my finishing product. I chose a braid as the style for my handle. i made this by cutting out three strips and folding piece after piece over each other in a braiding the i scored on the handle and... i was done. I found the fact that i came up with a good design and went with it sucessful. although i might come up with more than one design choice in the future if i were to do this again. A clay slab can be described as a pancake shape of clay. you wold make this by wedging the clay and rolling it through the slab roller. 1. first you would start off with a slab of clay clear of air pockets. then you would score and slip the ends together forming a cylinder. after you pinch the bottoms bringing them together making the three legs of the mug. lastly you would design fire and finish your mug.
2. I did it in a braid and i would score and slip each piece together as i would fold the in a braiding motion. 3. i find the handle the most successful. I fold make the braided pieces more round like coils instead of thin slabs. 4. clay slab is a broad flat piece of clay that is rid of air pockets and ready to mold |
